First interview with Eastern player from Ruffneck Attack Crew from Ukraine.
01. Introduce Yourself
My real name is Andrey Kurnosov, my bboy name – InTact. I represent Kiev City/Ukraine and my crew “Ruffneck Attack”.
02. History of Ruffneck Attack Crew....
Ruffneck Attack was started in 2000 in March in Kiev city/Ukraine. Our crew is the only Ukrainian crew that represents Ukraine since 2000 and still in the game.
Ruffneck Attack was the first Ukrainian crew that went to Europe in 2005 (Poland/Break Session) and took 3rd place there and the first crew that represented our UA breaking scene in USA in 2008 (WCRTM in Miami (we made it to the Final) and New Hope in Sacramento (2nd place)).
The first generation of RA 2000: Kolobok (not Kolobok from ESB), Hablik, Ash, Pasha, Crab, InTact. That was a long time ago)))
In 2003-2005 new bboys came to our crew – Mighty Mike, Yalta, Pluto. Later in 2007 bboy Well joined our family and in 2009 bboy Voe One and Vanilla.
So, our crew members for 2010 are: Pluto, InTact, Sley, Sneaky Crab, Mighty Mike a.k.a. Dj Mighty Mike, Well, Slef, Vanilla, Voe One.
We always were keeping the true aspects of Hip Hop culture in our crew and do a lot of work to teach new generation how it has to be, but we also continue to learn more and more!
In 2007 we started our breaking studio “Ruffneck” and a lot of young boys and girls came to learn something about bboying and they really succeed. Later in 2008 we made the first Ukrainian breaking video studio – “The Levels Of Breaking”.
In 2008 we started the first funk and hip hop parties – “Funk and Furious”. The main idea was to show to different people what funk and hip hop music is and also to involve more new people to this culture. That was the beginning of crazy parties in Kiev and from this name came t-shirts “Funk and Furious” (The soul never dies, Hip Hop Still Lives in Bboying, It’s just begun)!

03. You've been battling many bboys worldwide, what was your the most difficult battle?
I never thought about this) Every battle is hard, I always try be ready for hard battles even against those that I don’t expect! I had a lot of hard battles vs East Side Bboys – our battles against them were always tuff and hard)) This is the part of UA history – “Ruffneck Attack vs. East Side Bboys”.
I like our battle vs. Focus and Hatsolo at Circle Kings 2009 in half final! That was really hard battle and both didn’t want to give it up!
Very important battle was me and Pluto vs. Kinder and Kolobok at Outbreak Europe 2010 in Half Final – that was very hype and important for both crews, but we were a little bit better that time and made it!
One of the most important and hardest battles was final - Dream Team Ukraine vs. Dream Team USA in France Chelles Pro 2008, we won that battle, cause we came hard and wanted to do this for us and for our country.
Actually, I can remember a lot of tuff battles and continue to write and write)) a lot of battles vs. Mind 180, Top 9, Killafornia, Squadron, Rivers etc.
04. Describe bboy scene in Ukraine.
Ukrainian breaking is different from USA or Europe or Korea, first of all because of that we didn’t have any info (video, internet) for a long period. We were just practicing in the gyms and trying to create something and to understand how to make some basic moves. We didn’t have anybody who can explain or show anything to us! So we were disconnected from the breaking in the world and we understand that if we want to be really good we need to work hard and to bring our stuff.
Thanks to this factors we created a lot of our own basic moves during our practicing, we just didn’t know the traditional foundation of breaking in 2000 or 2002, so we were trying to do some moves and maybe to get something out of this))
Later in 2005 we started to know more about traditional foundations and of course we learned it, cause this is an important part of breaking and good platform for your creativity. So the combining of our own stuff that we created in the beginning of 2000-2002 because of luck of info and traditional moves born Ukrainian breaking scene and style.
05. We saw your last Anniversary Video Trailer - what was atmosphere on this jam? Maybe you remember any funny story from the backstage of RA Ann.?
Ruffneck Attack 10 years anniversary was very important event for all members of the crew and for all people that know us. We were waiting for this jam and working hard to make it come true! We didn't have any sponsors and any help from government, so the only sponsors were Ruffneck Attack!
That was one of the biggest events in Ukraine and for sure the biggest event in Kiev city! More than 800 people from Ukraine, Russia, Belorussia, Poland, Kazahstan, Slovakia, Korea, Holland, Slovenia came to our birthday to have fun and enjoy the atmosphere with nice beats, live funk band, great DJs, bboys and bgirls, cyphers etc.
We had great pre-party, main event and of course afterparty - three different places during three days full of Hip Hop in Kiev city, that was amazing.
So many people came to celebrate with us and we were so happy to see all this bboys and bgirls in our city at this jam, cause we made this event for them and for our own pleasure, to show how we feel it, how we see it, how we want it to be!
That was so nice to see everybody smiling, jamin' in the cyphers, having fun, just enjoying life! This is what it all about! Just be happy and do what u love to do))
Our special guests were: Dj Smirnoff (Russia), Dj Jay-D (Russia), Dj Uragun (Italy), Dj Woo-D (Slovenia), Dj Scream (Ukraine), Dj Mighty Mike (Ukraine), Dj Funky Nice (Ukraine), Funk Band "J.T. Fresh" (Ukraine), Bboy Born (Rivers Crew/Korea)!
We had a lot of funny moments at preparty and afterparty)) One bboy from Russia (Mr. Bean) started to read a poem at preparty and it was totally freestyle, but not rap, It was like a poem, mad funny! At afterparty East Side Bboys killed everybody by their congratulations to us) Everybody were drunk as hell and they just did crazy things during congratulations and were talking funny things! It is hard to describe)
We want to THANKS everybody who came and supported us, that was very important! Thank u, big inspiration for everyone!
06. What do you think about footwork skills level in Ukraine?
I think that footwork in UA is very original nowadays, a lot of new moves and creativity for the last 2-3 years! Sometimes to battle in footwork battles in Ukraine is harder than outside Ukraine))) Trust me!)So, just be ready for UA bboys and their mad footworks)) Danger))
07. Do you deal with other Hip Hop elements like Graffiti, Mc'ing?
Hehe) I don’t write Graffiti! I want to do it, but need to practice, cause I’m not good in this)
We do a lot of freestyle at home parties or when we chill together with my crew! We are not professional MCs but we like it and doing this just for fun)
08. Any future plans, any goals?
Future plans – do what we love to do and continue to do this as long as we can! Involve more and more people to our culture, bring Hip Hop to Ukrainian life, to show what it’s all about! To share our experience all around the world and to meet bboys and bgirls everywhere))
We want to make our breaking studio bigger, so more people can come to us and also we are working hard on Funk and Furious brand – we will do new t-shirts and sweaters and also hats))
There is also one thing that we want to do – to make a DVD about history of Ruffneck Attack and UA breaking, started from 2000 and till our days. A lot of work)) Hope we can do it!
09. Shoutouts.
Shoutouts to all UA bboys and bgirls, keep doing what u do and find your own way! Much love to bboys all around the world, to all who we met and know, to all who we battled and had fun, to all who inspired us.
